Crazy Train.

July 31, 2017

Very busy, long, productive, tiring, emotional, funny, confusing, loopy day it's been.

First radiation treatment this morning went off without a hitch- and the crowd goes wild....! Got back to rehab and we both learned how to suction her trachea tube. Abby Trotter Grant will need to know how to do it herself, and I do too- I've been watching and asking questions for two weeks, so it really was pretty easy to do today- just a weird thing and certainly has some serious clean protocol, but not rocket scientry. Also got a quick lesson on feeding and flushing her gastric tube and how to give meds- will need another go 'round on that and will get it tomorrow too.

After that there was another pile up- this time in Abby's room with the respiratory guy, case manager, the two reps from the 2 different companies supplying our stash of equipment: machines, tubes, cans of food, syringes, gauze, but wait- yes there's more ladies and gentlemen if you order right now we'll throw in this box of surgical gloves you just pay separate shipping and handling...

Tomorrow's going to be a very long day; radiation then Abby's first dose of chemo; ambulance ride home late afternoon; invasion of the VNA, respiratory aide, and delivery person with all of our medical swag. Then we get to shake up our bedroom like a snow globe and figure out where everything is going to land.

Things are falling into line- not a straight line mind you but a weirdly curvy twisty switchback type of line. But follow it we shall as the great thinker Yoda might say, and don't forget, let the force be with you- because I feel like it's with us thanks to all of you.
