Late late late show here again. Is it Thursday? Wednesday? Pick a card any card... another action packed day in Adventureland. Overall lots of progress and a good end result- Abby Trotter Grant finally got her port/stent in to make the chemo easier - was supposed to be about noon so at 1:30 she finally was taken down for the minor surgery- that's hospital time for 'ya. But all went well, and we were finally discharged around 4:30 and Abby got her chauffeured driven ambulance to whisk her to rehab. Ben was a trooper and hung out the whole day into evening- no easy task I think when you're 21 as hospitals usually don't make it onto any hot spot lists. But yes, it was really great to have him for company- alas he had to go home tonight because he got a late call to be a PA (production assistant) on set tomorrow for a Kevin Hart/ Comedy Central show they are shooting in Boston tomorrow- so, early am wake up call for Ben - good for you pal should be a great experience.
So far sounds fairly like a fairly smooth day, oui? Mais non! You see, still absurd ambulance issues; this one's not approved, this facility doesn't work with that company, those guys don't service that town, that one lost their accreditation, and those last 4 on the list are out of business. So we are left with the rickshaw, the pedicab or my favorite, yes the unicyclist. No problem Mr. Grant take your pick. I chose personal piggyback (Abby just get on it"s fine), and just as we were about to leave we got a reprieve and low and behold someone ponied up and decided to take us. I won't even go into the hour I was on the phone with Aetna, talking to someone in a galaxy far far away who after 15 mins. on hold told me I could leave a message and they'd get back to me in 24 hours. "Well that sounds very reasonable and fair to me " I said, whilst slowly pulling my fist back out of the hole in the wall I'd bestowed upon the patient "conference" area. No, I cannot tell a lie. What I did say was that if something wasn't done TOOOODAY I was going to contact every media, PR person, and consumer reporter I knew and tell them some very bad things about Aetna. So I was actually transferred to the "evaluation" dept. where I was introduced to a nice man named Scott, who clearly had stolen my brother"s name when he was a small child, because you know, they both had the same name. This Scott was actually quite helpful, informed, and sympathetic, just like my actual brother Scott has been throughout this ordeal, and now I am left wondering if they are actually both... oh well never mind.
So folks, it got done- between the case manager at the hospital and my charming ways we sleighed the Aetna dragon, and so the kingdom shall sleep peacefully tonight. Tomorrow is another day though, and if more beasts appear, as they most likely will, the Grants will be ready. Story time over and out, and love to all, and to all a good knight (could...not...resist...the..pun).
